D – Describe objectively what I learned
During Project 2, I developed “Impression Winchester | 2023 Autumn to 2024 Spring,” focusing on the surroundings of Winchester School of Art and my daily commute. I created a series of psychogeographic maps, integrating my photographs to illustrate Winchester’s landscape across seasons. The project involved digital collages depicting natural landscapes and architectural elements, emphasizing the seasonal changes from autumn to spring.
I – Interpret the insight
This project taught me to observe and document environmental changes deeply. I realized how personal emotions and external factors, like seasonal shifts and climate change, affect perception. The process revealed the dynamic interplay between light, weather, and mood, enriching my understanding of psychogeography .
E – Evaluate what I have learned
From this project, I learned the importance of integrating personal experience with geographic observation in psychogeography. The changing weather patterns, particularly increased rainfall and shorter daylight hours during winter, taught me to appreciate and utilize natural light for photography. This enhanced my ability to record and reflect on subtle environmental changes.
P – Plan how this learning will be applied in practice
In future projects, I will apply these observational and interpretive skills to explore other environments. I plan to continue using photography to document and express my experiences, aiming to create more nuanced and emotionally resonant works. This learning will enhance my ability to communicate the subtle interactions between people and their environments through art and design. Additionally, I will explore new ways to present my findings, possibly incorporating multimedia elements to enrich the narrative and provide a more immersive experience.
