Being Human

This is a short, sharp project focusing on the generation and exposition of potential solutions to a simply defined design problem. Project 02 is an INDIVIDUAL assessment task, and requires you to generate a large number of ideas in a relatively short amount of time and to use hand-drawn sketching on paper or tablet to illustrate the key features of each idea.

Brief of Project 2

Ten ideas that could serve as an antidote to overuse of technology:

  • The government sets up technology-free public areas in the city, such as specific natural park, city garden, etc. (no internet signal is provided)
  • Establish a digital detox day: encourage people not to use technology on this day, or at least arrange a period of digital detox for themselves. In addition, we can spend this day like a festival and experience various physical activities, like Christmas or Halloween, gathering people offline.
  • Digital Detox Resort:Committed to experiencing life close to nature &healing physical and mental health.
  • Technology-free social space: Create specific spaces to encourage digital detoxification, such as cafes, restaurants, art exhibitions, etc. Everyone who enters this space will have a common commitment: not to use any digital products as much as possible and to value face-to-face interaction. So you won’t see anyone here using a laptop or chatting and texting on their cellphone all the time. Also, I believe this kind of space could be a great place to make new friends.
  • Plant AR interactive exhibition: Use technology to create connections with the natural world and inspire awareness of ecological conservation.
  • Walking in nature: Regularly participate in activities such as camping or mountain climbing to immerse yourself in nature and stay away from electronic devices.
  • Explore personal hobbies: such as playing musical instruments, gardening, painting, etc. to stimulate your creativity while also providing a break from screen time.
  • Digital Wellbeing App: Install apps to remind people to take breaks, and even set usage time limits, force shutdown, etc.
  • City Digital Detox Lottery: Design an App to encourage and record people’s behavior in digital detoxification. We could list dozens of actions that could be considered helpful in balancing digital health, such as gardening, fishing, etc. During the execution of the task, people are restricted from using other functions of the phone, otherwise they will be considered invalid. After completing the task, people can participate in the lottery.
  • Technology-free education plan: Considering today’s kids are using electronic devices from an early age, it’s also important for them to undergo a digital detox.Regularly plan a course that is designed to focus on practice and experience without the use of any technology. For example: biology class conducts field education on ecological environment, chemistry class conducts chemical experiments.

Nowadays, technology is like magic to humans

How about using the power of technology to achieve digital detox?
